You’ve got your ticket, your tent and a trolley load of beer. You have something to sleep on and in and you have enough clothes for the duration.
So is there anything missing?
Here are six things you really need to take with you to make your festival one to remember for all the right reasons:

1. Toilet paper

Those little portaloos may well come armed with a roll or two but you just know that there’ll be none left when you feel the need for a number two. If you’re hard up for space then you can even get small rolls with no tube now which fit in even a small pocket. Also handy for mopping up the spilt beer in your tent.

2. Wet Wipes

The must have for any serious festival goer. You can use these for wiping loo seats, and loo door handles as well as being a useful alternative to a full on cold wash in the mornings. Any wiping or cleaning in fact can be done with a wet wipe. Like the toilet rolls they are available in little pocket sized packets which are perfect for taking round with you during the day.

3. Bin Liners

Another one of those multi purpose items that take up no room at all. Pack your clothes in one in case your rucksack isn’t waterproof and you get an all too familiar festival deluge. Take a spare to put worn clothes in. Muddy boots can be stood on a bin liner in your tent to save the whole thing getting mucky. You can use a bin liner as a waterproof too with holes cut out for your head and arms. Alt-Fest is in August so the temperature may well still be warm even if it rains making a full poncho or waterproof coat almost unwearable.

4. Water

Take a small bottle of water (500ml) with you particularly if it’s hot. Keep hydrated. This is something so many people fail to do and end up in a bad way because of dehydration. Even if you’re on the beer, take some water with you. Your body will let you know if it needs some.

5. Boots

Your feet are going to take a real pounding at a festival so you need to look after them. Shoes and trainers will get destroyed. Wellingtons are fine if the ground is extremely muddy but make sure you air your feet if you opt for these because wellies don’t let your skin breathe. Good boots are best, either military or hiking ones. They’re waterproof but still allow air circulation and will stand up to conditions harsher than you’re likely to find at a festival. Make sure any footwear fits well and is worn in.

6. Self Respect

We’ve all seen the pictures of the people face down in a heap and usually covered in what they last ate and drank at a festival. These are the people that forgot their self respect and ended up missing most of what they came to see. We want you to have a great time at Alt-Fest so even if you ignore all the other things on this list, please please remember your self respect. And if you think some of your friends may not bring theirs take some extra for them too. They’ll thank you for it in the morning.
